Setting up a support system for yourself as a caregiver is key. As the saying goes: you can’t pour from an empty cup. Make sure you find people to be on your team to help you provide excellent care, while taking good care of yourself.
You might need a counsellor to talk to when you’re feeling stressed, you might want to research a respite care service to have as a back-up should you ever need a break etc. There are so many ways you can support yourself to make your vital role of caregiver easier to manage.
The people in your life are happy to help, trust me! However, I know first-hand how it can be a little awkward asking for assistance here and there, but sometimes that is the best way to get exactly what you need. To make this process easier for you, we've created
a list that you can either print and share or email with those close to you. It will guide them towards some things you that may need from time-to-time without having to have the awkward conversation. If they see that you are experiencing a stressful couple of days and want to help, the list can be a guiding light taking the burden of asking off your plate.
